Linda K. George is an Associate Director of the Duke University Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development and a Professor of Sociology at Duke University. She is a member of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and has served as its president. She is a former chair of the American Sociological Association's (ASA) Aging and Life Cycle Section and the Sociology of Mental Health Section. She has previously served as the editor of the Journal of Gerontology, Social Sciences. She is currently an associate editor at Social Psychology Quarterly, and she was previously an associate editor for Demography.

Professor George has written or edited eight books and has over 250 journal papers and book chapters to his credit. She co-edited the Handbook of Aging and the Social Sciences in its third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh editions. Social variables and illness, stress and social support, and mental health and well-being across the lifespan are some of her main research interests. Phi Beta Kappa, the Duke University Outstanding Teaching Award, the Mentorship Award from the Behavioral and Social Sciences Section of GSA, the Dean's Mentoring Award from the Graduate School of Duke University, the Kleemeier Award from the GSA, and the Matilda White Riley Award from the ASA are just a few of the awards Professor George has earned.
