Katherine Anne Porter (1890-1980) has long been considered one of the twentieth's century most distinguished writers. She was awarded both the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction and the National Book Award for her Collected Stories (1965), which includes both Flowering Judas and Other Stories and Pale Horse, Pale Rider. Porter died in Silver Spring, Maryland on 18 September 1980, at the age of ninety.
