Lester L. Laminack is an Emeritus Professor from Western Carolina University's Department of Birth-Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle Grades Education at Cullowhee, North Carolina, where he received two teaching awards. He now works as a full-time writer and consultant for schools all around the United States. Lester is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English and has previously worked as co-editor of Primary Voices and the Language Arts children's book review column. He also published the Parent Connection section for the journal Teaching K-8 and served as a teaching editor for the publication. He was a member of the Whole Language Umbrella Governing Board, the North Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children's Governing Board and Secretary, and the Center for the Extension of Language and Thinking's Board of Directors.

Lester was a member of the Board of Directors of Our Children's Place [www.ourchildrensplace.org] and the Basic Reading Consultant for Literacy Volunteers of America from 1987 to 2001. He is the current column editor for The Writing Department of The Reading Teacher, an ILA journal.
