The Crime by John Ellsworth

Thaddeus Murfee is back in this twisted tale of two trials, mother and daughter, each claiming to have committed the crime...
No one will admit the truth. When both defendants are pleading guilty, how will Thaddeus sift through the evidence?
Thaddeus defends the mother on murder charges. The case goes to trial. Midway, the trial takes an unexpected turn and it looks as if the real killer has been exposed. Thaddeus isn't finished with the case, however, and soon he's back in trial yet again. The police and the District Attorney are certain they now have the killer in a death penalty case.
Of all his cases, this one is Thaddeus' most memorable and most difficult. Enjoy a front-row seat as the courtroom whiz takes on the establishment only to find his entire world turned upside down. It's back and forth, cat-and-mouse until the unthinkable happens.
Can Thaddeus win-over a jury of twelve tough Westerners who aren't afraid of handing out the death penalty?
John Ellsworth is a Goodreads writer with over 50,000 ratings and he is a USA Today Bestseller and a Kindle All-Star.

John Ellsworth was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and later relocated to Chicago to start his legal career. He represented criminal clients across the United States for thirty years. He has represented clients in cases ranging from shoplifting to first-degree murder, RICO, and tax evasion, and has gone to jury trial on all of them. His debut novel, The Defendants, was written in 2013 and released on January 20, 2014 for Amazon Kindle. Thaddeus Murfee, a 25-year-old attorney with 18 months under his belt, is the protagonist.

When a woman walks into his workplace with the letters V-I-C-T-O-R tattooed on her breasts with a ballpoint pen, he is lured into a government-mob plot. There'll be an investigation, a lawsuit, a murder trial, and a showdown with a mob hit guy. The book is brought to life by strong female characters that are both brilliant and tough. Beyond a Reasonable Death, John's second book, was released in March 2014 and is available on Amazon.

It is a legal thriller in the real sense of the word, and it continues Thaddeus Murfee's journey. Beyond a Reasonable Death was a smash hit with both John's fans and newcomers. I had a lot of fun creating these novels because they're exactly the kind of books I enjoy reading: they're packed with information about a diverse cast of characters, plenty of dialogue, and, as always, plenty of action and traps for the young lawyer. The books represent the type of education I had when I was Thaddeus' age and learned how to patty-cake when it came to doing the right thing for clients.

John Ellsworth now lives in Arizona with his wife and three grown children (all musicians and teachers), and he saves guinea pigs while playing classical guitar. Please keep checking back for updates on my next work, which is shaping out to be a heart-pounding thriller.
