The Crochet Block Bible by Luise Roberts
100 inspiring crochet block designs accompanied by clear written patterns, charts and photographs. Also includes a step-by-step guide to all the basic crochet techniques making it ideal for beginners and more experienced crocheters alike. This book is ticking boxes – hardback, spiral bound so it lies flat whilst you are following instructionsOver 100 blocks with a good variety of designs having clear written instructions or charts if you prefer, these are super clear and a good photo of the crochet block. It makes it easy to choose designs for your projects. There is also basic crochet techniques and this makes the book suitable for any skill level. Some designs have beads, others have surface crochet. The blocks include squares, triangles, hexagons, octagons, circles, snowflakes, stars and flowers. I found the colour choices for some of the blocks rather off-putting, but that is something easily changed as you can select your own colours. I loved the designs and the clear, double-page spread layout of this book. The finished design is on one page with the written pattern instructions and opposite is the chart and a diagram with any special abbreviations. Favourites were the Concentric Squares, Layered Spiral, Textured Quarters, Lacy Stripes, Open Trefoil, Bobble Diamond and Primrose. You could easily alter the size of the designs by using a thinner or thicker yarn too. A crochet book you will want to add to your bookshelf.
* Karen Platt- yarnsandfabrics.co.uk *The first thing I want to say about this book is it isn't just squares. There are blocks of all different shapes and sizes. Louise & Heather have really expanded the idea of crocheting blocks.
Not only do they use different stitches & colour to create the different looks, they also include picture designs as well. My first impression of the book was fantastic. The book is spiral bound so there is no need to have something to keep the book open. It has a good sturdy cover that will hold up to constant use. The book includes 100 crochet blocks that can be mixed and matched to make multiple different projects. They can be used for throws, cushions, bags, scarves & even toys. The first section of the book is taken up with each of the block designs. Each block comes with instructions in written & chart format. Within the block designs the blocks are then split into section Squares (Filet, Stitchwork & Colourwork), Triangles, Diamonds, Pentagons, Hexagons, Octagons, Circles, Snowflakes, Stars, Flowers. The later part of the book is all about the techniques used; Choosing yarn, Getting Started, Stitch Reminder, Fitting Blocks Together, Planning Your Design, Blocking and Joining & Reading Pattern & Charts.I love the fact that no matter what level of crocheter you will find blocks that you will be able to crochet. I also love the fact that in the fitting
blocks together section there are diagrams of how you can put different shapes of blocks together. The block pages have clear large pictures. I think this is a very good choice as it makes the design clearer and easier to follow. Not only are charts provided with the designs some of them also include colour graphs. Some of the blocks also have little notes to help you on your way. Each of the designs have a modern look with a traditional twist. They use a fantastic mix of colours
and could be tailored to your requirements. This is one of those books that will be used time and again.
