The Curious Spell of Madam Genova by J G Schwartz

In 1920, the small town of New Iberia, Louisiana, is known for its alligators and murky swampland. Only a few of the locals are aware of their most talented resident, Jenny Genova-a clairvoyant. At age twenty, after Jenny assists in murdering a young man, she moves to New York to become a professional fortune teller, referring to herself as "Madam Genova." Although extraordinarily skilled in predicting the future, she is a novice at casting spells. When a client requests a "good luck spell" for two unique pocket watches, the spell goes awry. The owners of the watches are granted remarkable luck; however, there are unforeseen consequences. If either watch is lost, misfortune will follow. In addition, Jenny's spell has resulted in each watch seeking its own destiny. The silver watch seeks the individual with the greatest hope; the brass watch longs for the brightest stars. The Curious Spell of Madam Genova follows the journey of the pocket watches as they pass from owner to owner, resulting in amazing luck and horrific tragedy for some of the most famous individuals of the twentieth century.
