Danziger's Travels by Nick Danziger

This account describes the author's adventures during an 18-month journey "beyond forbidden frontiers" in Asia. With minimal equipment and disguised as an itinerant Muslim, he hitch-hiked and walked through southern Turkey, and the Iran of the Ayatollahs, entering Afghanistan illegally in the wake of a convoy of Chinese weapons and then spent months dodging Russian helicopter gunships with the rebel guerillas. He was the first foreigner to cross from Pakistan into the closed western province of China since the revolution on 1949.
Nick Danziger is an author, documentary film maker and photographer. His first book 'Danziger's Travels' was an immediate bestseller and has been reprinted over a dozen times. He has made over 40 documentary films for the BBC, Channel 4 and the Discovery Channel amongst which his documentary video film 'War, Lives and Videotape [BBC]' (based on the children abandoned in Marastoon mental asylum in Kabul) won the prestigious Prix Italia for best television documentary. In 2004 his photograph of President Bush and Prime Minister Blair won first prize in the portrait category of the World Press Photo awards. His photography is regularly shown in newspapers around the world including Time, Newsweek, Paris Match and L'Espresso.
