Darkest Heart by P J Linden

Like an expertly paced symphony in words, this novel seethes with sexual tension and barely suppressed violence. Set against the relentless, daemonic beat of Africa's dark heart, it tells of two groups - one white and fun-loving, the other black and fleeing persecution - who meet by chance in the Transvaal's Kruger National Park. The outcome is brutal and brief. But the long-term effects on Rodrigo's refugee band, and on Afrikaner Tom, his English visitor, Rick, and their girlfriends, is devastating. Following a climactic scene of astonishing sexual volte-face - soon to be mirrored in South African politics - equilibrium of a sort is restored. But how long can it last in the realm of daemons? How soon will Paradise Regained turn into Paradise Lost - for ever? P. J. Linden was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he went to school, as well as in the UK. He attended university in London, graduating as a Dental Surgeon. Work has taken him to Kenya; Tanzania where he attended a course in rural African socialism; the Caribbean working as a translator and deckhand on a luxury yacht; South Africa; Saudi Arabia, where he set up a clinic for a wealthy sheik; Qatar; the Sultanate of Oman where he set up a private practice; and, lastly, Australia where he has worked in various states. At fifty-three, he currently resides in London with his partner, Helen, although he considers Perth, Western Australia to be 'home', and is now an Australian citizen. The father of two children, he enjoys travel, scuba diving, rugby, motorcycles, reading and hiking.
