George J. Brooke is Rylands Professor of Biblical Criticism and Exegesis at Manchester University where he has taught since 1984. He is co-director of the Manchester-Sheffield Centre for Dead Sea Scrolls Research and since 1992 has been member of the Israel Antiquities Authority's international team of editors of the scrolls. In 1999 he was the President of the British Association for Jewish Studies. He is a world authority on the Dead Sea Scrolls and a founder editor of the journal Dead Sea Discoveries. He is an author who is held in high esteem in America. Amongst his many previous books are Exegesis at Qumran (Sheffield, 1985), Temple Scroll Studies (Sheffield, 1989) and The Complete World of the Dead Sea Scrolls (co-author, London 2002).
