Georges Ohnet was a French novelist and master of letters who lived from 1848 to 1918. Ohnet was a keen observer of popular opinion. This keen grasp of his audience aided him in developing the passionate style for which he became famous. He despised the romantic melodrama genre, preferring instead to focus on nuanced love. His literary brilliance is in his ability to inject innovation into a genre as archetypal as romantic melodrama. It was because of this trait that he became one of the most widely read authors of his era.
