Diagrammatic Writing by Johanna Drucker

A poetic demonstration of the book form's capacity to produce meaning, from the author of The Century of Artists' Books

Johanna Drucker's Diagrammatic Writing is a poetic demonstration of the capacity of format to produce meaning. The articulation of the codex as a site for meaning-makinghas rarely (if ever) been subject to such highly focused and detailed study as in this volume, in which Drucker shows how format and content can become fully integrated, co-dependent and mutually self-reflexive. Fun and educational, this small book will be of interest to bookmakers, writers, bibliographers, designers, artists and anyone interested in the meta-language of diagrammatic thought in graphic form.
Author and bookmaker Johanna Drucker (born 1952) is known for her artists' books and her prolific work in experimental typography. She has published and lectured widely on topics related to the history of the book, art, graphic design and digital aesthetics. Her books include Inventing the Alphabet (2022), Graphic Design History (2012) and The Century of Artists' Books (1995).

Johanna Drucker, book artist, visual theorist, and cultural critic, is Martin and Bernard Breslauer Professor in the Department of Information Studies at the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.
