Diana and Her Rhinoceros by Edward Ardizzone
Diana Effingham-Jones is a sensible child. So she does not panic when an escaped rhinoceros with a horrid cold walks into her sitting-room one winter evening. Instead she gives him a rhinoceros-sized serving of Influenza Mixture, cough cure and aspirins, and plenty of hot buttered toast. A classic story of a very special friendship, by the much-loved author/illustrator Edward Ardizzone.
4 stars - A classic story of a very special friendship, by the much-loved author/ illustrator Edward Ardizzonewww.bettybookmark.co.uk This unusual pet gives Ardizzone many opportunities to show off his draughtmanship. Spectator Ardizzone's instantly recognisable illustrations are every bit as soothing as the medicine Diana sticks down the rhino's neck. Families South East This classic book has a contemporary message as Diana proves to be a brave animal crusader who saves the white rhino from being shot and cares for him. Junior An unquestioning slightly surreal setting perfectly in order in the imaginings of childhhood. The reproduction is superb, far, far clearer and much more subtlety in the colouring than in my own first edition. School Librarian
