Elizabeth Bishop (1911-1979) was born in Massachusetts and one of the greatest, most beloved American poets of the twentieth century. 'Helena Morley' was the pseudonym of Senhora Augusto Mario Caldeira Brant, whose diary was first published for her friends in 1942. She was an avid traveller which served as a great source of inspiration for a poetry and book writing. She won the National Book Award in 1970 and the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1976.
