English summary: This monograph focuses for the first time on Das Hotel and Ebbi, two plays written by the German artist Max Beckmann (1884-1950). The plays are read in close connection with the hermetic and highly individual pictorial language of Beckmann. Thus, links are found that reach far beyond classical iconographic or historical contexts. The plays - documents of the key turn in Beckmann's art in the 1920s - can show the viewer and reader how Beckmann's specific pictorial method works. Beckmann's pictorial conception proves itself as a genuine modern semiotic game with polyvalent allocations of significants. With the means of an comparing and contextualizing analysis of the main categories of Beckmann's visual and textual world - mythos, theatrum mundi and allegory - a new light on the painters invidual pictorial rhetoric is shed. German description: Diese Studie stellt erstmals Das Hotel und Ebbi, die beiden erhaltenen Dramen des Malers Max Beckmann (1884-1950), in den Mittelpunkt einer kunst- bzw. literaturwissenschaftlichen Betrachtung. Der Autor liest sie in engem Zusammenhang mit den hochst individuellen Bildwelten des Malers. Es ergeben sich Querverweise, die weit uber klassische ikonographische bzw. motivgeschichtliche Zusammenhange hinausreichen. Die Dramen - Zeugnisse der entscheidenden Umbruchphase im Werk Beckmanns zu Beginn der 20er Jahre - geben Aufschluss uber sein spezifisches pikturales Verfahren, das hier in der parallelen Lekture mit den Dramen als genuin modernes semiotisches Spiel mit polyvalenten Signifikantenzuordnungen gedeutet wird. Durch die vergleichende, kontextualisierende Analyse der fur das Werk Beckmanns bedeutenden Kategorien von Mythos, Welttheater und Allegorie in seinen Text- und Bildwelt(en) ergibt sich eine neue Sicht auf das individuelle bildrhetorische Verfahren des Malers.
