Dog by John Hegley
This collection of verse and drawings from the man dubbed "comedy's poet laureate" combines Hegley's skills as a stand-up poet, puppeteer and cartoonist. The work is, by turns, both touching and funny.John Hegley is a well-known English comedian, musician, and songwriter who performs as a performance poet. In 1980, he began his career as a stand-up comedian at London's Comedy Store. Many of Neal Layton's ideas derive from his upbringing, and he has been on television shows such as Wogan and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. He also performs live and is a regular at the Edinburgh Festival. He's worked on a lettuce farm, a chocolate factory, a teapot factory, a book shop, and delivered newspapers in the past. To date, Neal has illustrated over 40 books. In 2002, he won the Smarties prize for his book Oscar and Arabella, which he both wrote and drew.
