Won Park was born in Korea and immigrated to the United States at the age of three. From a young age, origami was an significant part of his life. When Won was six years old, he began folding paper. His mother was his first teacher, teaching him rudimentary models. He began to study origami as he grew older, using books he acquired from the library.

When Won was in middle school, he began folding money. Because the paper used to produce the dollar is incredibly durable and strong, he discovered that it was the appropriate folding material. He has specialized in money folding since then.
