Ecology, Community and Delight by Ian Thompson

This book examines the three principal value systems which influence landscape architectural practice: the aesthetic, the social and the environmental, and seeks to discover the role that the profession should be playing now and for the future. The book integrates an investigation of historical sources with contemporary research into the beliefs and values of practitioners. The book raises questions such as: should landscape architecture aspire to the status of an art form? What is the relationship between aesthetics and ecology? Does landscape architecture have a social mission?

'His well-referenced book is likely to be a useful text for students, and ought to be a prompt for office coffee-talk' - Landscape Design

'This is a book which strives for clarity of thought and clarity of design and succeeds in both...will probably become a standard textbook for those seeking to work as landscape architects or to understand the discipline.' - Landscape and Art

Ian Thompson was born in Liverpool, England, but grew up in a tiny town in Cheshire for the majority of his childhood. He went into textiles for a career that included laboratory testing and quality control. Give him some carpet, garment, or curtain fibers, as well as a microscope and some chemicals, and he'll tell you everything you need to know! He enjoys fast-paced adventures with strong and interesting characters, gritty action, and unexpected twists. Getting whisked away into someone else's imagination has always appealed to him, inspiring him to construct his own places.

PARADISE EXHUMED, his debut novel, was published in February 2015 and is a violent whodunit thriller set in modern-day Britain about a pair of investigative reporters on the hunt for a ruthless and seemingly relentless killer. The first book in the Ray Hammett Thriller series is PARADISE EXHUMED. Ian's second work, AGE OF DARKNESS - VOLUME I: THE APOCALYPSE BEGINS, is the first installment of a war-torn action fantasy series. Three Short Stories From The Age Of Darkness were published after that.

SURVIVAL I: SLAUGHTER AT GHASTAR kicked off a spin-off series of Age Of Darkness Novellas. Ian's third book is a chilling horror story. GOD OF WAR is a cause-and-effect story in which events from two thousand years ago have horrifying consequences now. During the Roman occupation of Ancient Britain, an ambitious man attempts to build something spectacular for Nero's gladiatorial arenas.

A group of cavers in modern-day Britain find the results of Roman efforts... They discover that they are being pursued by a beast that kills to feed and gratify its vicious urges. His next books launched his Short Horror Stories Series, which features short stories packed with thrills, chills, and unexpected turns. GLANCING BLOW, a story about a simple mishap with horrific effects, launched in October 2015.

SLOWLY followed HOOKER, CHAINED, IGNITION SOURCE, HOME OF MY DREAMS, BUG HUNT, and KILL HIM. THE BURNING RIDER is the eighth installment in the series. AGE OF DARKNESS, VOLUME II: EXTINCTION was released in March 2016, bringing the fantasy war saga to a terrible finale. For more information about Ian Thompson and his art, go to his website.
