This retrospective of Alfred Eisenstaedt's best-known images is a celebration of a life devoted to photography. It presents a wide range of his work, from his days as a press photographer in Germany through his long, prolific career at "LIFE" magazine, where he began on the first issue in 1936.
Alfred Eisenstaedt began his photographic career in Berlin in 1929. He emigrated to the US and joined LIFE. In his 60 years with the magazine he completed over 2,500 assignments and in 1989 he received the National Medal of Arts for 'extraordinary photographs that document the tragedies and triumphs he has witnessed over a lifetime' He died in 1995.
