Elijah & the SAT by Heather Choate Davis
A curious braid of memoir, social commentary, and biblical narrative woven together into one compelling storyline. Davis began writing the book as a commentary, primarily, but as she wrote the real-time memoir portion began to take on a life of its own. Fans of Davis' debut memoir Baptism by Fire will recognize Elijah as something of a sequel. At a time when parents are crying out for answers to the relentless pressure and purposelessness that their children are experiencing, a new answer emerges - an answer as old as time.
Heather Choate Davis began her writing career as an advertising copywriter. Over the past 30 years, she's written screenplays, teleplays, one-acts, liturgies, and books-including her memoir, Baptism by Fire and the semi-sequel, Elijah & the SAT: Reflections on a hairy, old, desert prophet and the benchmarking of our children's lives. She's also taught creative writing and Junior Great Books, created an original, arts-based vespers called The Renaissance Service (TM) and leads retreats at a high desert monastery, and at book clubs and church groups. Davis blogs at heatherchoatedavis.com and for the Huffington Post about faith, family, culture, and theology. She has an MA in Theology from Concordia University, Irvine, and is the co-founder of icktank. You can follow her on Twitter @faithinwords. She lives in Mar Vista, CA.
