Bill Stemple sells secret photographs of the new Lanfair model to a French motor magazine simply as a foolish prank to annoy the directors of Lanfair Motors. As an employee in the publicity department of the company, he leaves almost everything to be desired. His outstanding virtue, albeit a negative one, is that he has not committed murder. The morning after the office party a young female member of staff is found murdered. Bill had been with her the last time she was seen alive and had made a pass at her. He soon finds himself under suspicion, and under arrest. There are surprises for all concerned in the legal proceedings that follow.Roderic Jeffries was born in London in 1926 and attended the School of Navigation in Southampton. In 1943, he went to sea with the New Zealand Shipping Company, and in 1949, he returned to London and was called to the Bar. He practiced law for a short time before dedicating himself to writing full-time. His writings have been adapted for film, television, and radio and have been published in a variety of countries. He and his wife have two children and live on the island of Mallorca.
