Emotion Pictures by Wim Wenders
In these essays on the cinema, the author documents the obsessions leading to "Paris, Texas" and beyond. He discusses rock'n'roll in the movies, avant-garde film, questions of German identity and the passion for the American West and the Western. Wim Wenders is an internationally famous film director who directed "Paris, Texas" for which he won the "Palme d'Or" at Cannes; he also won the Cannes Best Director prize for "Wings of Desire".This ambition began to be realized in the fall of 2012. The Wim Wenders Foundation was established in Dusseldorf in order to create a legally binding structure for bringing together Wim Wenders' cinematic, photographic, artistic, and literary lifework in his own nation and making it permanently accessible to the general public worldwide. The non-profit foundation concept assures that the entire body of work is protected from any private self-interest. My films have been watched by people all around the world, and many have been impacted by them. Some of them have gone on to become classics or cult films. They no longer belong to me in this sense, but rather to a collective memory of moviegoers of all ages and cultures.
For many years, I've wished that my work might one day belong just to itself, and hence to everyone. This dream now has a realistic and one-of-a-kind chance to come true. Wim Wenders All proceeds will go toward the foundation's mission of promoting the arts and culture through the preservation, restoration, research, and distribution of Wenders' work, as well as the encouragement of young talent in the field of innovative cinematic narration.
