Robert C.Jones was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1981, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. DeVry Institute of Technology offers a bachelor's degree in computer science. Robert worked as a computer consultant at Hewlett-Packard from 1984 to 2009. He's now a writer, researcher, and cameraman.

Robert is the President of the Kennesaw Historical Society and the Kennesaw Museum Foundation's Director of Programs and Education. Retracing the Course of Sherman's Atlanta Campaign and March to the Sea, Portraits of America: Kennesaw, Great Songs of the Civil War, The Pennsylvania Railroad: An Illustrated Chronology, The Fifteen Most Important Events of the Civil War, The Combat of Griswoldville: An Infantry Fight on Sherman's March to the Sea, The Battle of Griswoldville: An Infantry Battle on Sherman's March to the Sea, and The W&A, to name a few. Robert has been ordained as a Presbyterian elder. He's created and taught a variety of adult Sunday School classes.

He is the author of A Short History of Protestantism in the United States, Heaven and Hell: In the Bible, the Apocrypha, and the Dead Sea Scrolls, The Crusades and the Inquisition: A Quick History, Monks and Monasteries: A Little History, The 25 Most Important Persons in the Post-Apostolic Christian Church, and Revelation: Context and Commentary. Death Valley Ghost Towns - As They Look Now, Ghost Towns of the Mojave National Preserve, and Ghost Towns of Western Nevada are only a few of Robert's books on ghost towns in the Southwest. Working Virtually: The Challenges of Virtual Teams, a business book, was co-authored by Robert in 2005.
