The Essential Guide to South African Wines by Elmari Swart

The essential guide presents the wine-producing regions in the Wine Pockets system with detailed maps and GPS coordinates. Each Pocket highlights terroir, viticulture, winemaking techniques and flagship wines. Further chapters open the world to understanding, tasting and serving wine; and explore the pleasures and profits of terroir wine.
Elmari Swart is the founder of Cheviot Publishing and holds an M.Sc. (Oenology) degree from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. This is the fifth book she has published in as many years. Elmari has written about diverse wine-related subjects, ranging from the chemistry in wine to the more subjective understanding of terroir. She has received several international and local awards - both in publishing and business - and her first title became a best-seller within a few months of publication. Elmari indulgences her boundless passion for winemaking - she and her husband produce 1 200 bottles of fine wine annually in their garagiste winery, aptly named The Cheviot Winery. Elmari is regularly invited to judge wines for local competitions, and expands her experienced pallet by regularly travelling to Northern and Southern-hemisphere wine-making regions. Izak Smit is a business advisor on the agricultural sector in South Africa. Izak has an international commercial background in export and trade to the United Kingdom. He is a firm advocate of South African terroir wine.
