Essential Public Affairs for Journalists by James Morrison

Knowledge of public affairs matters: this friendly guide is an invaluable read for journalism students and journalists looking for a firm grasp on how central and local governments work, how public services operate, and how political events generate informative new stories.
Blimey! I could have done with this book about 20 years agoA wholesome and comprehensive canter around every limb and funnybone of the state. * Chris Mason, BBC Political Editor *
An essential guide for everybody in our trade. Finding your way around public bodies and laws is to discover how much of Britain works. And his time in journalism has taught James Morrison what journalists need to know: where and how to find stories. * Kevin Maguire, Associate Editor, The Daily Mirror *
A work of extraordinary range and ambition that brilliantly succeeds in laying bare the workings of our nation. Above all else this is a readable, useable book; the information is accessible and the analysis is snappy and fair-minded. * Justin Webb, Presenter, The Today Programme, BBC Radio 4 *
It's always best to know at least as much, and preferably more, about the workings of local and central government than those who are operating in it. This book will be an essential guide to keeping those running the operation in check-and that is what our industry needs more of. * Alex Crawford, Special Correspondent, Sky News *
