After 36 years as an Engineering Systems Manager for the Forest Service, His involvement in the design and construction of the Ocoee Whitewater Center, which hosted the 1996 Summer Olympic whitewater competitions, was a career highlight.

His time with the Forest Service also allowed him to study the outdoors and obtain a comprehensive grasp of man's interaction with environment. He grew up hearing wonderful stories from his grandma and other historical storytellers. His writing demonstrates a deep personal understanding of regional history, which he weaves into his characters.
