Barry Clifford is a well-known underwater explorer from throughout the world. He was born and reared on Cape Cod and has spent more than half of his life conducting underwater surveys and recovery missions. Clifford and his colleagues found the main body of the shipwreck in 1998, after discovering the wreck of the famed Whydah in 1984. He has established a museum, the Expedition Whydah Sea Lab & Learning Center, in Provincetown, Massachusetts, to house the Whydah items as a complete collection. Clifford is also an experienced mountaineer and jungle explorer, as well as a Discovery Quest Scholar and a member of the Explorers Club. Expedition Whydah, The Lost Fleet, and Return to Treasure Island are his works.
