Douglas Owen is a fiction, science fiction, and young adult author whose work has been described as vivid, inventive, and credible to bizarre. He also works at Self-Publishing! as a contributing writer and circulation coordinator. Doug has been a contributor to Self-Publishing! since 2012. The goal of the column is to help writers and artisans improve their craft. He discusses everything from the writing process to self-publishing on a tight budget.
Doug also provides interviews with artists, writers, and publishing industry professionals. Doug was asked to join in WORDPLAY 2013, EMERGING WRITERS OF THE YORK REGION, in 2013. LONELY, his story, received a lot of positive feedback from the audience. THE SHIP, a flash science fiction story he wrote for MashStories, was published in 2014.
They selected the tale for publication in their quarterly magazine. Doug's work is still being published in online journals, small press magazines, and Science Fiction and Fantasy magazines. He's also excited to be a part of the next edition of WORDPLAY, as well as MASHSTORIES. The second book in the SPEAR series will be released in November 2014.
Doug, who was born in Scarborough, Ontario, has battled a significant reading addiction and has spent many hours inventing bizarre backgrounds for AD&D characters. He began writing more series in 2010 and has thoroughly liked the experience. He lived in Markham, ON for over a decade until moving to Stouffville, ON in 2007.
