Fat Hen by Richard Francis

It's Stockport, 1948, and the Willis family, ordinary people, are living an apparently uneventful existence. Things are not what they seem. Jack makes a discovery that enables him to create an alternative life for himself unknown to the others, and Rose has experience she can't even name.
Richard Francis is currently lecturer in American literature at Manchester University where he is also the deviser and convener of an MA in Novel Writing. His previous novel, the highly acclaimed Taking Apart the Poco Poco, was published in 1995.
