A Few Kind Words and a Loaded Gun by Noel 'razor' Smith
At the age of 16 Razor Smith stood in the dock of the Old Bailey charged with armed-robbery, GBH, and possession of a firearm with intent. He survived a borstal system that was in reality a gladiator school for young criminals, and came out hardened to violence, embittered to the system and determined to pursue a life of crime. Over the years his addiction to violence diminished, but the thrill of the crime never went away: by the time he was given a life-sentence in 1998, he calculates that he had committed over 100 armed robberies.
Noel Smith was born in London in 1960. He has 58 criminal convictions and has spent the greater portion of his adult life in prison. Whilst in prison he taught himself to read and write, gained an Honours Diploma from the London School of Journalism and an A-Level in Law. Author of four books, he has been awarded a number of Koestler awards for his writing and has written for numerous major publications. He is now out of prison and Editor at Inside Time magazine.
