
Carolyn Sherwin Bailey was born in Hoosick Falls, New York, and grew up in Lansingburg, a small Hudson River hamlet. She attended Teachers College, Columbia University, and the New York School of Social Work before beginning her literary career (which resulted in the publication of thirty-five novels). Dr. Eben C. Eben C. Eben C. Eben C. Eben C. Eben C Hill, whose antiques and apple orchard inspired the Newbery Medal-winning book Miss Hickory (1947), lived on Hill Farm in Temple, New Hampshire for many years.
