If you live in an area at risk, this book can help to prepare you and give you peace of mind.

In 1979, Douglas Kent, MS, MLA, began eating weeds. Catherine Peck, his mentor and great aunt, was an expert in Depression-era meals. He developed a profound regard for native creating, eating, and living while working as a naturalist for the Environmental Nature Center (Newport Beach, CA) in the late 1980s. His passion for foraging, gardening, and California's landscapes has only grown since then. Doug has spent almost 40 years working in and grazing California's gardens.

Hundreds of landscape projects have been completed by him across the state. He holds two master's degrees in environmental land management. He has volunteered in several areas to help with restoration and urban food initiatives. Since 2008, he has taught foraging and/or wildcrafting classes at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Doug is also the author of six other publications on environmental horticulture. For some, foraging is a matter of survival, while for others, it is a spiritual connection to the earth. Doug considers foraging to be a source of happiness and well-being on a daily basis. He believes that embracing nature and grazing our effects and weeds will make California far healthier and more resilient.
