Belinda Martineau earned her B.A. in Biology from Harvard University and her Ph.D. in Genetics from U.C. Berkeley. Prior to joining the staff at Calgene, Inc. in 1988, she was a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology at the University of Chicago. She has published over two dozen articles in the scientific literature and has been issued patents on four inventions that utilize genetic engineering.
