Fix It with Food by Michael Symon
When Michael Symon found out he had rheumatoid arthritis and external lupus, he suspected that what he ate--or didn't eat--could make a profound difference in how he felt. So he committed to a food reset on The Chew--no red meat, white flour, sugar, dairy, or alcohol. He recorded his results using social media to share his experience with his hundreds of thousands of fans--and what happened next was incredible--after a few days, he felt amazing. Michael discovered that dairy, sugar, and processed flours are his triggers, and that by avoiding them, his inflammation essentially vanished. Viewers connected with his journey and asked him to share his recipes. From Ginger and Chile-Roast Chicken to a dairy-free Mac and Cheese, Spaghetti Squash with Arugula Pesto to an Apple and Cherry Oat Crisp, Michael came up with more than 125 incredible recipes to satisfy his cravings without aggravating his body. The recipes in Fix It with Food provide guidance to both identifying food triggers and creating a meal plan that works around whatever ingredient causes your discomfort.Douglas Trattner has been a full-time freelance writer for more than a decade, covering every inch of Cleveland for local, regional, national, and international publications. Food Network magazine, the Miami Herald, the Globe and Mail, and Wine & Spirits have all featured his work. Douglas was named Best Critic in Ohio by the Society of Professional Journalists for his long tenure as dining editor of Cleveland Scene. Douglas is the founder and managing editor of Fresh Water Cleveland, a digital magazine that covers Northeast Ohio's most engaging people, businesses, and organizations. He still writes weekly food reviews. Douglas and chef Michael Symon co-authored two New York Times best-selling cookbooks, Carnivore and 5 in 5.
Douglas felt there was little more to learn about his hometown after so many years of professional writing about it. During the research for this book, he reexamined his favorite city from top to bottom with fresh eyes. He left the project with a newfound love for Cleveland, discovering new stores, restaurants, museums, and hidden gems. With his wife, two dogs, and four chickens, he lives in Cleveland Heights.
