Flambards in Summer by Km Peyton

1916. The First World War is well underway, and Christina is one of the many women left behind. When she returns to Flambards, she finds much has changed. The house is buried in ivy, the paddocks are overgrown, and the once busy stables are deserted and desolate. Christina vows to return the manor house to its former glory, and works hard to transform her childhood home into a successful farm. It is only when a familiar face appears at her door one day that she realizes Flambards may even bring her love again . . . A welcome reissue of this much-loved family saga.
..brilliantly compelling slice of social history * The School Librarian *
K M Peyton convincingly portrays the passion, uncertainty and intensity of young love. * Linda Newbery, Armadillo *
Kathleen Peyton grew up in the London suburbs and always longed to live in the country and have a horse. Although she enjoyed writing stories she wanted to be a painter, and when she left school she went on to study art. At Manchester Art School she met her husband, Michael, and they now live in Essex and have two daughters. Following the success of Flambards, Kathleen went on to write three more books in the sequence, the second of which, The Edge of the Cloud, was the winner of the prestigious Carnegie Medal. And since she has made some money from publishing her books, Kathleen has always had a horse, or several! In the 2014 New Year Honours, Kathleen was awarded an MBE for services to Children's Literature.
