John Hughes was born in the English Midlands town of Sutton Coldfield, studied music at Royal Holloway College, and has spent the majority of his adult life in Surrey. He's made a fortune selling pianos at Harrods, playing keyboards in a tribute band, working as a magazine editor, recruiting, and, most recently, managing in the NHS. Follow My Leader is his second novel, and he has published a half-dozen non-fiction works. Austin Macauley published the first, Spitfire Spies, in 2016. Home Alone, The Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off are among the films John Hughes has produced, directed, and written screenplays for - but that's a different John Hughes.
