Maggie Bennett was born in Hampshire and worked as a nurse and midwife until 1991, when she retired. Before publishing her debut romance novel in 1992, she had small success with essays and short tales. She went on to publish six additional medical romances under her married name of Margaret Holt after this work received the RNA New Writer's Award that year.
