Formula III Racing in North America by Harry C Reynolds
This detailed illustrated history describes the emergence in North America of the 500cc displacement road racing cars known as FIIIs. It ranges from the start in 1950 right up to current Vintage racing, with descriptions of the cars, courses, organizations holding race events and the people involved, outlining the vast differences from the east coast vs. the west coast. Period photographs and other graphics are reproduced, many for the first time in print. The transition to FIV cars is discussed. By 1964, the initial movement was over and cars were idled, but within a few years, interest in Vintage road racing began, and gradually, many of the existing cars were reactivated. Both east and west coast Vintage events are covered, again with photographs and other images. This book also contains much road racing history (1950-1964), apart from that of the FIII class. Appendices cover surviving cars (both Coopers and other marques) with recent photographs of most. Other appendices cover racing organizations and a variety of technical topics related to racing the cars. Harry Reynolds has over thirty years experience in the networking industry, with the last 20 years focused on LANs and LAN interconnection. He is CCIE # 4977, and JNCIE # 3, and also holds various other industry and teaching certifications. Harry was a contributing author to Juniper Network Complete Reference (McGraw-Hill, 2002), and wrote the JNCIE and JNCIP Study Guides (Sybex Books, 2003). As a co-author he wrote Junos Enterprise Routing and Junos Enterprise Switching (O'Reilly, 2007 and 2009 respectively). Prior to joining Juniper, Harry served in the US Navy as an Avionics Technician, worked for equipment manufacturer Micom Systems, and spent much time developing and presenting hands-on technical training curriculums targeted to both enterprise and service provider needs. Harry has developed and presented internetworking classes for organizations such as American Institute, American Research Group, Hill Associates, and Data Training Resources. Currently Harry performs Customer Specific Testing that simulates one of the nation's largest private IP backbones at multi-dimensional scale. When the testing and writing is done, a rare event to be sure, Harry can be found in his backyard metal shop trying to make Japanese style blades.
