Malise Ruthven is an Islamic writer and historian who focuses on religious radicalism. He's worked as a playwright for the BBC Arabic and World Services, as well as teaching Islamic Studies and Comparative Religion at the Universities of Aberdeen, Berkeley, and Dartmouth. He is the author of several books, including Rage for God and Fundamentalism, and is a frequent contributor to The New York Review of Books, among other publications.
