Gaia in Action by Peter Bunyard

This book is a comprehensive anthology of the leading thinkers of Gaia theory. James Lovelock's Gaia Theory, which views the earth as a living organism, offers a vital alternative to our scientific and cultural outlook on the planet we inhabit. Gaia theory suggests the rich and revealing areas of scientific research, as well as inviting a critical look at some traditional aspects of our inherited scientific attitudes. Includes contributions from James Lovelock, Lynn Margulis, Peter Saunders, Michael Whitfield, Brian Goodwin, Mae-Wan Ho, David Abram and Kate Rawles.
'Few ideas since the Second World War have challenged prevailing orthodoxies as compelling as Jim Lovelock's Gaia hypothesisMore and more people are now out there surfing its ripples in one way or another, and some of the best of them are to be found in this collection.' -- Jonathon Porrit
Peter Bunyard studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge and Harvard, and is adjunct faculty on the University of Boston Study Abroad Programme. A founding editor of The Ecologist magazine, he is a Fellow of the Linnean Society. He regularly lectures in South America on the climatic importance of the Amazonian rainforest. He is author of The Breakdown of Climate and Extreme Weather (both Floris Books).
