David Perlowin went throughout the country after graduating from the University of South Florida with a bachelor's degree in biology, working in several professions. In 1982, David relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico. He spends his free time fly-fishing, writing, and working on various herpetological breeding initiatives. Jerry G. is a native of central Louisiana. For more than thirty years, Walls worked as an editor in New Jersey, publishing over 400 publications on natural history themes, particularly reptiles and amphibians.

His thirty-eight volumes (twenty of which are about herps) cover anything from lizards and turtles as pets to huge reviews of seashells, boas and pythons, and toxic frogs. He has also served as the editor of Reptile Hobbyist magazine and currently contributes a monthly column to Reptiles. He is an avid birder who has collected over 600 U.S. species. He has a long list of pet and wild bird species on his life list, as well as various books and essays on the subject.
