It was supposed to be a simple test flight, one that pilot Ariane Austin was on only as a last-ditch backup; intelligent, superhumanly fast automation would handle the test activation and flight of humanity's first faster-than-light vessel. But wWhile pursuing his Master's degree in Pittsburgh, Ryk E.Spoor worked at Wizards of the Coast, the main publisher of role-playing games and related novels, as a playtesting consultant and writer. He now resides in East Greenbush, New York, where he works as a technical proposal writer for a high-tech R&D firm and spends his free time with his wife and two sons. In 2003, Baen released his first novel, Digital Knight.
