The Great White Palace by Tony Porter
In 1986 Tony Porter and his wife gave up successful London careers to buy Burgh Island, off the Devon coast, with its near-derelict Art Deco hotel. Struggling with debts and repairs, they restored the hotel to its former glory, when it was visited by Agatha Christie and Edward, Prince of Wales.
TONY PORTER was, until recently, co-owner of the Burgh Island Hotel. He founded London Fashion Week and worked for several years at Biba, the famous store created by his sister-in-law Barbara Hulanicki.
