Margaret Young was born in Southampton where she lived until going to University in Eastbourne in 1979. She moved to the Isle of Wight in 1984 to take up a teaching position at Upper Chine School, Shanklin and continued teaching on the Island until retiring in November 2020. Since 2003, Margaret and her husband David have had a holiday home in the medieval town of Josselin, Brittany. Her experience teaching and living in France were the inspiration for Groovy Grandad.
Based on the Isle of Wight, Maria Ward has been painting the island and its people for the last 25 years. She works primarily on location for composition as it makes the pictures more dynamic and also means you have a better sense of place. Maria adds a bit of fun and humour, bringing in seaside holiday fun, and her work is predominantly created with a fine liner or dip pen and coloured using artists watercolours and a sable brush.
