Guitar Man by Will Hodgkinson

Will Hodgkinson dreamt of being a guitar legend but never got round to it. Now in his thirties and married with children, he still nurtures hopes of emulating his heroes. So he decides to learn the guitar from scratch, start a band and play a gig before it's too late. On his journey of discovery, he picks up tips along the way from Johnny Marr and the Byrds' Roger McGuinn, and attempts to play Davey Graham's 'Anji'. Will his debut gig end in bum notes, 'musical differences' and disaster?
'An engaging odyssey.. It'll entertain anyone with calloused fingertips and a desire to thrash through "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on a club stage' Q 'Compelling, by turns hilarious and informative' Observer Music Monthly 'A natural writer of clean, evocative prose ... when he sets off to drink at founts of wisdom in the rock guitar's natural home, it's a pleasure to go with him' Independent 'Reading this feels like having a chat with Hodgkinson down your local, sipping a few pints - and he's the model host ... funny but sharp, and above all else, passionate about music' Record Collector
Will Hodgkinson was born in Newcastle and now lives in London with his wife and two children. He has written for the Guardian, Mojo, Vogue, the Daily Telegraph, the Idler and Wallpaper and has made a documentary for BBC Radio 3 on Brazil's 60s pop revolution.
