Handcrafted Metal Findings by Denise Peck
Metalsmiths reveal new findings in jewelry trends! Following up their best-selling book Handcrafted Wire Findings, Denise Peck and Jane Dickerson give jewelers more techniques, more (and different) findings, and more inspiration. Handcrafted Metal Findings features 30 step-by-step tutorials for metal findings that require only basic jewelry-making skills. Working with precut metal blanks and thin-gauge sheet metal, Denise, Jane, and several contributing artists have created great-looking findings—head pins, bead caps, bails, charms, connectors, cones, and more—all without a lot of effort. All the metalwork can be done with basic tools—no saws, no flex shaft, no oxy/acetylene tanks. Metal pieces are hole-punched, dapped, hammered, textured with stamps and tools, colorized, oxidized, and patinated. Construction techniques include simple soldering with a micro torch and cold connections such as riveting. Finished gallery pieces that incorporate some of the findings provide additional inspiration in this inspiration- and information-packed book.
"As my considerable stash began to quickly dwindle, Denise and Jane's first book came out and I devoured itNow, they add 30 more excellent tutorials to make your design work so satisfying. To say, 'Oh that? I made it myself.' At the back of the book are 34 pages with detailed photos, instructions, and templates on how to do all the metal work necessary to make every project. This is actually my favorite part of the book, as it's easy to follow, visually appealing, and gives you lots of information which can take you in so many creative directions. Most times, I skip these sections of books, but this book is an exception." --Pretty Things
"They use both sheet metal and wire to craft 30 different findings. And almost as a bonus, there is a step-by-step project included to showcase each finding being used." --Beading Arts
"If going totally handmade is your thing, then this book might just rev up your creativity." --Beading Gem
