There are many different bag designs to make - all of them practical and bright, plus some that are purely whimsical. A flower bell anyone? Most projects are for sewing only, while one involves painting and there are a couple of knitted ones as well. There is a cute pieced skirt guard made from oilcloth that will also make your wheels immediately identifiable. With all the options given for carrying your gear, you could change the look of your bike to match your outfit, if you were that way inclined, or create some lovely gifts for others who like to ride.
