Hauntings by Susan Price

A collection of short stories about ghosts - including a practical joker who finds a ghost with a better sense of humour, and the ghost of a first love ...
Susan Price is one of the best contemporary writers for children of nine and overShe is especially good at presenting a recognisable modern world, often through the eyes of an older person, looking back to their youthful past. She understands well that the ghost story form may be used to move readers and question their prejudices about the nature of appearance, as well as to frighten delightfully. She never settles for cheap effects and writes beautifully of relationships between young and old. THE DAILY TELEGRAPH Susan Price has an exceptional gift for bringing other worlds to life. JULIA ECCLESHARE, THE GUARDIAN Praise for NIGHTCOMERS 'Every tale shows the quality of the imagination, and the accuracy of the telling. What most impresses is the authority of Susan Price's voice: exact, rich or spare when necessary, able to evoke the Past without falsity, and the present without effort.' PHILIP PULLMAN, THE GUARDIAN
Susan Price is an acclaimed, prize-winning author who won the Carnegie Medal in 1987 with Ghost Drum and the 1998 Guardian Children's Fiction Award for The Sterkarm Handshake. She wrote her first book aged 16 and became a full time writer aged 22. She now has over twenty children's novels to her name and has been described as 'one of the best contemporary writers for children' by Susan Hill in the Daily Telegraph. She likes archery and lives with her husband in the West Midlands.
