Kiese Laymon, the Ottilie Schillig Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Mississippi, is the author of the book Long Division, the memoir Heavy, and the essay collection How to Slowly Murder Yourself and Others in America. She was born and reared in Jackson, Mississippi.
