Kathryn Stockett was born and raised in the Mississippi city of Jackson. She moved to New York City after graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in English and creative writing, where she worked for sixteen years in magazine publishing and marketing. Her husband and daughter currently reside in Atlanta.
