Jenny Uglow is a critic, reviewer and publisher. She has written widely on the English novel, particularly from a feminist standpoint, and her books include acclaimed biographical and critical studies such as George Eliot (1989) and Elizabeth Gaskell: A Habit of Stories (1993). She is currently working on a study of Fielding’s friend, the artist William Hogarth.
